Faces turned roughly towards the camera give the most natural movement.
Works, with a little care
- Faces turned away move gently. We never invent a face we can't see, so someone turned away or cut off moves subtly.
- Pictures of people behind. Framed photos, posters and murals behind your people are kept still wherever we can, and we check every clip.
- Big groups, small faces. The further away people are, the less their movement shows. Closer shots of key people shine.
Worth avoiding
- Several prints in one photo. Photograph or scan each print on its own, not a whole album page at once.
- Strong reflections across faces. Glare is usually cleared, but not when it covers a face. Take it out of the frame, or tilt it.
- Tiny, heavily compressed images. Photos saved from messaging apps lose detail. Use the original if you have it.
